Individual Life Insurance FAQ's

Q: Does life insurance pay benefits for any type of death?
A:
Generally, individual life insurance pays a death benefit whether an individual dies in an accident or from natural causes. There are certain exclusions that may apply. Check the policy for specific exclusions. For example, many policies exclude suicide, if the suicide occurs within the first 2 years of the policy.

Q: If I have term life insurance and don't die within the term, will I get a refund of the premium?
A
: No. There is no premium refund or benefit paid if you outlive the term of the policy..

Q: Will the annual premium I pay for term life insurance change during the policy term?
A: Level term life insurance policies often guarantee that the premium will not increase for a specific number of years. Refer to your policy or ask your agent to find out how long the premium is guaranteed.

Q: Can I cover my children under my life insurance policy?
A: Most policies let you add a rider that will provide up to $10,000 of coverage for each child. The additional premium is usually the same if you add one child or all of your children .

Q: I bought life insurance last week, and now I've decided I do not want it. What can I do?
A: After the life insurance policy has been delivered, you usually have between 10 and 30 days to review the policy and decide to keep the insurance. This is sometimes called the "free look" period and the period can vary depending on the state you live in. If you decide not to keep the insurance coverage, you need to notify the insurance company within this time period to receive a full refund. After the "free look" period, many insurance companies will usually provide a partial, but not a full refund.

Q: Will I need to take a medical exam when I apply for life insurance?
A: Nearly all insurance companies require a medical exam. The medical exam can be done in your home and will probably include blood and urine samples. The insurance company pays for the exam.

Q: If I have an existing medical condition, will I be able to get life insurance?
A: It depends on the type and severity of the condition, how long you've been treated for it and other factors. In some cases you may not be eligible. In other cases you may be eligible, but you will usually pay a higher premium.

Q: I enjoy sky-diving. Can I buy life insurance?
A: Some insurance companies will not issue life insurance policies to people who have risky hobbies. Contact us to find a life insurance policy that meets your needs and lifestyle.

Q: How do I find out more about my life insurance policy?
A: Your insurance agent can answer most of your questions. Contact us with questions about insurance coverage.
